Alarm Fund Fundraising
I need your help raising money for the fine I incurred setting off an alarm at Circles while preparing for a recording session.
I am going to offer you guys the same deal that my local public radio show offers. If you guys donate money quickly, then I will not have to fundraise in my recording. Trust me you don’t want to hear my pathetic pleas and I don’t really want to have to continue to ask.
There is a new link on the right sidebar for the alarm fund. Please use it, I am only looking for $5 to $10 donations from individuals. If everyone pitches in today and tommorrow I can avoid having to talk about it on the show.
If you are a group of people who are putting in a larger donation, please let me know what your group is called and where you are from. I would like to share the love with my listeners.
Every penny over the the actual fine cost (?$200?) will be split between podcast production fees (the not free stuff that makes the show sound so good) and Circles Knitting Salon (my gracious recording space hosts).
That is all, I hope that I don’t have to beg… Sorry for bothering you all.

Ok.. I’m sorry but.. you are the one who set the alarm off and inccured the fine.. why why why.. should WE contribute to pay for that just to avoid hearing you ‘beg’ for money to pay for it?
I presume you are an adult who has a paying job.. and therefore you need to take responsibility and pay this fine yourself..
If you incur a parking ticket whilst doing your pod cast or a speeding ticket on the way to Circles to record it..will you be begging for money to cover that cost? It;s the same thing..
I think that it is indulgent of you to use your new found popularity to get out of this responsibility..I’m sorry, I would NEVER EVER presume to ask people to cover this type of cost.
Serously please think on this. I have enjoyed your podcasts thusfar but will be forced to stop listening if you continue in this..
OK Denise,
I am sorry that I have offended you with my request. I was afraid that this might happen.
The long and the short of it is this, I am asking for help. I apologize if I am begging a bit, I have had a bad week and part of my bad week relates to some of the things on my show taking up a large amount of time and not working out.
Your right, this is my responsibility for setting off the alarm and regardless of what happens with my fundraising efforts * I will make sure that the fine is paid for *.
I am asking for the help because I, like other podcasters, have sunk a great deal of time and money into putting my show together. Sadly, hobbies cost money and marshmallows don’t grow on trees.
I thought that the community I was growing here would help me out with this expense due to the fact that it is directly related to the show.
My apologies again to those of you who are irritated by my pleas, I only intended on bringing it up once on my show and was trying to avoid that by making a last plea here on the blog.
Do not feel obligated to help me out unless helping me out is what you want to do. It is appreciated.
Perhaps a yarn/ pattern book sale would be more respectable.. and just as effective? Many people who are in the knit blogging world have used this method for raising needed funds..
I just don’t see the fine as a direct cost of your podcast..that’s all..
I bet you could set up an affiliate account with amazon, where you list a book you like here, and when people click the link here to buy it, you get a cut.
I contributed and I’m more than happy to help. I have more than once emailed other podcasters directly offering to contribute or donate as I am a weekly listener to this and a few other knitting podcasts, and their time and creativity that they give to us for an hour of entertainment each week is extremely valueable and I don’t want to see any of the podcasters I listen to go away. I’m also assuming this great podcaster wouldn’t be asking for help if he didn’t need it.
Knitting is a part of my life. I invest a lot of money in my hobby and listening to Guido is part of my hobby. So the contribution has been made – it’s coming out of my yarn budget. Guido invests his time and resources in making something topical and interesting to entertain us; shouldn’t we consider helping him out here as a thank you? Of course, if he sets the alarm off again, it’ll be a different story. And he probably wouldn’t dare to tell us if he did that! LOL
I don’t know what’s happening with this posting system. This is my third try at posting the entire entry. I DO know how to type and how to read the security code. It’s sort of like ripping out and trying again – oyyyy!
The way I look at it, Guido probably spends about 5 or 6 hours trying to get a podcast together.
I enjoy listening to him, for that time. It makes more painful things – like putting away laundry & emptying the dishwasher – go faster.
I don’t mind chipping in a few bucks, so he doesn’t have to go “back to the bathroom”.
And, really, for the ladies out there, wasn’t it worth it, to be able to say “What a guy!”, when he tripped that alarm? (Sorry Guido)
It’s just 1 skein of cheap yarn. Sheesh!
I’d never donate to something that didn’t have a cool thermometer graphic indicating how far along they are! Seriously, how’s the fund coming along?
For the people that want a cool thermometer graphic (I also wondered how much you had already raised), you might want to go to http://www.dropcash.com which was set up to do fundraising campaigns of an sort. It is a rather cool system, I highly recommend it. Funds will still come via PayPal.
The “ask for donations or don’t ask for them” issue has been bouncing around the blogosphere for years. Some people don’t care, others care a lot. Me? I don’t mind. As a podcaster, I know all about the time and the costs involved in podcasting. Sending you $10 is no different to me than taking you to lunch, which I would *definitely* do if I was in Boston, without so much as a second thought. But could it be lunch at Regina Pizza in the North End? Because that was some good stuff. I could use some Regina Pizza right now. Afterwards, we could photo hunt while heading to the LYS. Hey, a girl can dream, right? (I love Boston.) (I love it a lot.)
I think 99% of us are not at all offended if financial help is asked for and if anyone has a problem with that then they should simply ignore the plea and not make nasty threats and comments.
I hope things work out for you Guido and take a break if you need it.
Hey, I would spend $5+ for a knitting magazine and I have wasted more than that on yarn that was a total failure. I enjoy your ‘cast. You seem like a nice guy, so quit being so humble. The request is out there so let it be and see what happens.
have you seen the yarn bracelet. Not too girly it is a steel loop you wear over your wrist with a skewer that you stick through your yarn ball. It is great for walking and knitting.
