I need a calendar

I just found a comment that was hidden alerting me to a knitting party… How bad ass is that?

Anyhow, Massive Blonde says:

Hi,
This week at Minds Eye Yarns during BIG SALE WEEK, I was told, the Monday knitting group at Somerville Library is having a party. I’ve never been over to meet those folks but plan to crash the bash with a stash of home made cookies.
Come crash with me. I’ll be the one with massive blond curly hair, handing you a cookie.

West Branch/Somerville Public Library Knitting Group 40 College Ave., Davis Square, Somerville. 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Sadly Susan, I will not be able to attend the party if it is next week, I have some guy knitting thigs to do. That’s right Monday June 5th is another installment of the Knitting Gentleman of Boston (KGB) and for those who would like to attend we will be at the Dado on Church St. in harvard Square from 7pm – 9pm. Please try and use alternative transportation, street parking is hard to find and lot parking is extremely costly.

Also I am going to be running a little WWKIPDAY event at the AubaunPain on Mass Ave in Harvard square on June 10th, from 11 until the knitters go home. FYI – this is also pride parade week and it should be a good day for some people watching as well as knitting.

Oh Please, we need to crash knitting parties with guy knitting pals, side by side!!.

Today between dachshund walking and Bikram Yoga Harvard Sq today on the 77 bus, knitting brought me into a conversation with a fella on waiting for the Mass Ave line as well. I had him guess what sort of needle my cable needle was. He said he was fascinated. He was deducing much and could ID knit vs. pearl stitches.

While on rout to Harvard Sq I told him about the knitting group for guys. He said OH YES, I know it’s not a femie thing, a MD in my office knits.

Encroaching on H. Sq. he finally revealed that in college, back in the 70’s everyone was knitting, even himself. He said it was not a gender specific activity. SO WHAT HAS CHANGED???

I think that Martha Stewart and TV shows like the Carol Duvall show are geared towards women and obviously have women spokespeople for their programs. The only time I’ve seen guys on with Martha Stewart, they are gardeners, landscapers, or chefs-traditionally a male dominated field. How about knitting magazines, are the guys sweaters only there because some gal may want to knit it for her fella? The rest of the mag seems to me to be girl all the way.

What do you think has changed? Or has it not and I’m just out of touch?
