tightly knit podcasters

I am at podcamp this weekend. I am learning about how to make my show better. The people here are great and really excited about knitting , I think I have made a few converts.

The biggest lesson pushed here is that you should communicate with your audience. So I wanted to let you know that I love all of you and can’t wait to do the next show tonight. Also, please send me feedback so that I can know more about you.

More yo come tonight, when I am at a real computer and not just writing from my treo.

Stitchy McLast-to-Know

So Lucy Lee at Minds Eye has been giggling about the new book Sitchy McYarn Pants put out. Last night at my Watertown group I learned that Ms. Yarn Pants was written up in the Globe.

So perhaps Lucy knew, but I didn’t… She is a Boston girl. Or she is in the boston area. Woo hooo!!!

Well… I hope she makes it out to the knit out. Congrats to yet another great Boston/New England blogger…

Non-Knitting Matters

Hey all… Sorry about the lack of show this week. I have been trying to put the show together, but have too many other things that need to get done at work and for the Boston Knit Out (you’re all coming, right?)

Anyhow, I realized that I hadn’t said anything and was feeling like a bad boyfriend. You know, the kind who doesn’t communicate but expects you to understand. I am not that guy… But I am the type of guy who finishes a baby suprise and then in an atempt to feel like I have accomplished something send it off to a baby far away without taking pictures.

So I will ask Joe to send me a picture of Rene wearing the baby suprise. If it fits her. Ugh… HOw do you make sure ehat you make fits kids, they are always growing and you never know when the gift will be at the right place for the kid. Oh well… We’ll find out soon enough.

On the next show I will yarn-a-lot about the Boston Knit Out and Crochet Too… I will talk about my EZ obsession… and perhaps I can get my punkin to talk about her recent knitting obsession.

Have a good week. I will be back. Perhaps I should just accept that I may be a bi-weekly show for a while. Is that OK with you?

Girliest Morning Ever

Well… I don’t know about the rest of you, but at 6:00am this morning I was knitting and watching the movie ‘In her shoes’. While I can explain this, it doesn’t make me any less girly… Sigh… And I wonder why I can’t find friends to go to the titty bar or play Xbox with.

Anyhow…

Last night I started watching the movie as I was working on completeing the last 6 edges of the Baby Suprise. While I would have stayed up to mid-night to complete both the project and the movie, my pumpkin wasn’t feeling well and required my attention.

So I put it all off until the morning. And while some might suggest I wait until the weekend, those people don’t know what a crappy week I am having at work and should realize that I need as much positive energy to get through the day.

So the movie was sweet and the surprise is off the needles now. So the darning of the project can begin and pictures will soon follow.

Have a great weekend everyone, the next show should be up this weekend…

:)

Blog Day 2006

So today is blog day, the day where bloggers point out other bloggers. I know there is supposed to be some kinda interesting effect… But I don’t know that I get it all…

I read way to many blogs for me to pick favorites, they are all favorites. Anyhow, here are the 5 blogs that are currently showing new posts in my newsgator account:

Finished Object Dance
Patience is a Boston knitting guru who has completed 6 baby suprises in the time it has taken me to make one. She is a really nice and patient teacher and put up with me on an almost weekly basis. I highly recommend checking out her blog and reading about the many felted animals in her life.

Full Service Yarn Shop
Lucy is my main yarn pusher. She is a lot of fun to hang out with and holds court on Wendesday and Thursday in her shop. Her blog is new. She like to talk about her life and knitting and her new dog. The pictures of her cousins are usually pretty enteraining.

Grumperina goes to local yarn shops and Home Depot
Kathy is the most famous knitter I know. She is also awesome… and the blog is kinda fun too. As anyone listening to my show knows I am trying to get her to come hang out on the show. She has a very different prespective than I about knitting, but I think we both share a blind love and passion for Elizabeth Zimmerman.

Crazy Aunt Purl
Laurie makes me smile and laugh. Her blog is about her life as a knitter living with cats, an X, and a crazy gardener. Her tales and her deep fried recipes are heart breaking. I love to read about her life stuff and cheer her on from a distance…

Brooklyn Tweed
OK, so I don’t know much about this blog. The reason I have it in my newsgator is two fold; because everything this guy makes is awesome and all his friends seem to be super models. I how he does it, but every picture he takes seems to be more decedant than the last. How does he have all this time to complete so many projects. He really puts me and othe knitters to shame. Damn you and your love of EZ too!!!!

What the hell do I know about PR?

So I am currently drowning in my Boston Knit Out PR tasks. I need to come up with about three to four different knitting relating stories for local media to pick up on and get them to cover the knit out prior to the event. Sounds easy enough right?

Well after sending press releases out to the usual suspects and requesting to be listed in online calendars… I feel like no-one out there is listening. And since I feel like no one is listening I fear I may be killing the knit out. Which is really sad, because the thing about a knit out that is awesome for knitters/crocheters and non-fiber people is… there is no selling… only door prizes and teaching. So it’s like this awesome free event where you and your wallet can enjoy the day without guilt.

Can you believe that more than 3,000 knitters show up every year for this event. I hope that my PR performance does not kill this.

If you know anything about how to get onto T.V. / Radio /  or into the local paper in the Boston, Worcester, Providence, Hartford, New Hampshire, North Hampton, areas please feel free to post a comment or drop me a note by email. 2skiens-at-itsapurlman-dot-com

If you have neeto stories you would like to share about knitting or crocheting (and crocheting is super hot right now, Hansel) please feel free to share.

This Labor day weekend is all about me finding an in to some of the media.

Also, I was thinking about doing a piece on college knit groups to try and get college papers involved as well. So if you are a part of a college group and would like to contribute, please let me know about your groups and any other groups you know that might exist.

ok… that’s it… I will go back to being stressed out all on my own… :) THanks for letting me vent.

Flash your knitting bags drawing

I have a little pencil case in which I cary:

  • Many circular needles
  • Spare knitting marker
  • pair of scissors
  • Guage counter
  • tape measure
  • double pointed needles
  • crochet hooks, one large and one small

Sadly, I left my little case at circles two weeks ago, and I have been feeling very naked without it.

This sense of nakedness has reminded me that I need to make a new tool kit to hold all my goodies. One that screams GUIDO and that I would never misplace. One that would somehow be a part of a project bag.

In this vain I would like to invite you to flash your bag to me. In return for helping me gain some inspiration to make a bag for myself(non-floral and all) I will enter you in a drawingfor a copy of Greetings From Knit Cafe (which I reviewed w/ David in episode 12).

Here is how this drawing will work, post a description of what tools and baguage (knitting realted, emotional is optional) you travel with in the comments as well as a a link to a picture of your bag/contianer in all it’s glory. I will then put all the names I recieve into a knitting bag and draw the name of the winner.(offer available where legal…yadda…yadda…yadda…) the winner will be anounced in episode 16.

The future is a sub shop

Hi…

I am sitting in a subshop waiting for sum food. Instead of knitting as I usually do, I am blogging on my new treo. It’s so cool, but definitly bot the same as being at my computer.

Over the weekend my parent’ through me and my pumkin an engagement party. It was a wonderful party with 60 or so people, half of which have not seen me in over a decade. I was honored by there company and someone even got me a ball of acrylic.(like I said, they hadn’t seen me in years.

that’s it for now… next week I will have a great show setup…
