Me, knitting mittens magic loop style with Cashmere Island on Red Line from downtown to Harvard.
You, some guy knitting on grey straights (I assume size
with some lovely orangey stuff (I assume malibrigo). You were practicing seed stitch.
I gave you my podcast card and told you about the knitting group for guys.
So… did I have bad breath or am I weird to think that perhaps you would actually want to talk. Was I too forward by sitting down next to you. I did give you the straight man’s seat buffer.
I guess I am not used to knitters who don’t like to talk. Not that I excpect a whole lot, but most people will be cordial enough to inquire about my project after I ask about theres. And you are the first guy I ever met who seemed even more weirded out when there was another guy knittingĀ in the area. I thought it was kinda funny that two guys were knitting on the subway at around 8:00pm.
Oh well… good luck with your knitting.

Next weeks show will feature an interview with Jackie, the shop owner of Wild and Woolly in Lexington, MA. Jackie is an awesome force of nature who has been running her shop for for over 30 years. She has a lot of opinions and stories… and you will get to hear them next week.
This week I have to finish two projects, put in extra hours at work, pack for my weekend trip to Washington D.C. and eat well.

On today’s show:
I yarn-a-lot about my current projects and 2008. I play a recording by Queer Joe and share info about the Men’s Knitting Retreat. Then I sit down and talk with Betsy of A Loom With A View in Newburyport, MA. Finally I rant a little about my Fat Nano and stuff.
Here is the Powerful weaved bag that Betsy talks about on the show, love the colorway. Here is a link to the Hemlock Ring Blanket project and the KAL at WEBS. Here is a link to the Mostly Merino site where I made the Very Simple Shawl project. This was a great first shawl project, so fast, so easy, so pretty…
I have a new. simpler email address for you to send me your thought, podcast@itsapurlman.com. I have also updated my flikr account.

The server is giving me some trouble. While I have a new interview recorded I need to get the server working correctly prior to posting the new show. Perhaps tonight will work.
In the mean time, check out this awesome collection of images from the Library of Congress at Flickr.
Also, I have updated my flikr images to include some Team Chuppah goodness.

OK… I love “Pushing Daisies”. It’s a great show about a recluse who can resurrect people. The universe in which this story takes place is a fantastic retro-world ala Edward Scissors hands. Everything is modern, but strangely 50’s cartoonish as well.
So, why do I bring this up? Well… There is a lead character on the show who knits. The Detective is a crochety mistrusting blow hard who is also an avid knitter. He knits to reduce stress and also to hide his stash (of money). He even knit his gun holster.
I love how they use knitting in this show. it’s not a weird thing that is done by some freak or stereotypical grandma. It’s just a part of the show as something that someone does. Sometimes it’s part of the plot, hey a knitting needle comes in handy. Sometimes it’s just part of character development, he was reading a knitting magazine. It’s awesome that this guy is just a guy who (shockingly) knits.
So… that really makes me happy and I highly recommend this show.
In other ABC news, there is a new show coming out called “The Cashmere Mafia”. But so far as I can tell there is no knitting. Just another catty women in business show, a female version of Big Shots. Lot’s of personal issue things where men cheat and women have girlfriends. Don’t know if it will be good, but I was drawn to it by the fiber content in the title.
Oh well… So I have to wonder if how fiber content will end up in the new T.V. series and movies.

So… my pumkn got me a Fat Nano for Christmas ( Yes, I said christmas… and I had a chuppah… what of it). I love it so much. I can now listen and view some of my favorite podcasts … only thing. Two things… questions really…
1) Can you really only dock with one computer? Is there away to have a work/home thing ?
2) Is it possible to arrange your podcasts from oldest to newest. I am listening to shows and have to go in rewind when I am done so I can listen to the next show. Kinda sucks….
Thank you all… I can’t believe it has taken this long for me to get a proper Ipod. I have been using so many other mp3 players. The only reason I really wanted this one was because it was the cheapest video toy ever…

I saw this event posted at boston.com. Basically it’s a ugly holiday sweater contest. Everyone is supposed to wear the most hideous holiday sweater they can lay their hands on and then compete for the title of most reviled sweater.
This could be a lot of fun for many creative knitters. I would love to compete for making the most ghastly holiday sweater of all time. I think you could ad all sorts of stuff to your sweater, I personally think doing a lot of bobble snowmen could create something really hysterical.
Based on the venue, I don’t think this is a knitting event though… Perhaps next year I will try and throw just such an event for the crafty at heart.
